Hostage Situation

The 19 left.

Many of you know that on July 19th Korean Christian aid workers where taken hostage in
Afghanistan. Twenty three hostages, all church volunteers, were seized by Taliban militants. Two were executed and two others were freed. There are still 19 being held. Today they reached a deal with Taliban militants to free the 19 remaining. They are asking Korea to withdraw its 200 troops from Afghanistan and that Seoul would stop all Christian missionary work in Afghanistan. I just wanted to post this so more people would be praying for them. This story is not even top news right now. Two dead and 19 people are being held hostage and Owen Wilson is getting more press. Sad! Check out The story and the time line over the past month.

Hey you know what? I was shocked to talk to a non-Christian Korean friend of mine here in Prague and hear him say that the majority opinion in Korea (everyone he knows) thinks that the church was wrong in having them go, that they coerce and "guilt" people into serving like that and that this all has been a horrible senseless and avoidable tragedy! I mean, I suppose that makes sense that if that is your perspective of how the church is(or worse yet, that maybe sometimes it is true?!) that this would be your response...but still this was a shock to me. So I encourage people to be praying, too, that what satan means for bad God would use for good in Korea within the relationships among Christians and non-christians...an aspect of this whole thing that I never thought of. THANKFULLY I haven't heard that perspective show up on CNN.

I am aware of this tragedy because of the large Korean population at Gordon Conwell. I do know the sister of the pastor who was murdered. Junho and her family live on campus. It is sad to admit our news has shown practically nothing about this. A few of us have been following the story through the Korean community or on the BBC News. It is our news that would rather provide dirt on Owen Wilson and Lindsay Lohan. They think that is what people what to hear; and it is true. They don't have to think and face their own reality with these stories. Thank you for posting this story and prayer request.
